Death down the street

A couple of hours ago, less than a mile from here, a friend’s son was beated to death in his own home.

High school senior beaten to death in Hyde Park home

HYDE PARK – A Summit Country Day School senior was beaten to death in his home today, less than two weeks before he was set to graduate from high school.

Police still would not say who they think killed John Warrington, 18. But another male teenager led police to the Warrington house on Berry Avenue about 1 p.m. after he was found washing blood off himself in the Hyde Park Square fountain.

That teenager told a man outside the firehouse on the square that someone had been killed in a nearby place and that the dead person had been beaten with a bat, according to dispatch transmissions. He agreed to show authorities where it happened.

That teen was taken from the square and interviewed by detectives. Police spokesman Lt. Kurt Byrd said he could not confirm whether the suspect and victim were related.

As Warrington’s body, covered with a white sheet, was wheeled out of the house, police restrained his mother, who tried to run up to the house.

“That’s my baby!” she screamed.

I can’t begin to imagine what she’s going through. But D, my thoughts and heart are with you now.

Not D, but another friend with the same name. Not good news… just different news.
